Singapore’s mobile market has a new entrant. Swap Mobile launched in Singapore on 19 October 2026, offering adjustable mobile plans alongside a smartphone subscription programme that allows eligible customers to request a device upgrade after six months.
Operating as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) on StarHub’s 4G and 5G network, Swap Mobile combines connectivity, device access and protection.
How the smartphone subscription works
Customers can subscribe to selected flagship and mid-range phones without an upfront device payment. The Device Subscription lasts 24 months; customers who want a different eligible phone after six months can return their existing device and begin a new subscription term.
Importantly, phones supplied under the subscription remain the property of Swap Mobile. Consumers should compare the total subscription expense with the cost of buying and keeping a smartphone before deciding whether the arrangement suits them.
Adjustable 4G and 5G plans
Swap Mobile’s SIM-only plans allow users to change data, talk time and SMS allocations each month. Standard starting prices are S$10 per month for 4G and S$15 for 5G, with no long-term commitment for standalone SIM plans.
Both tiers include APAC roaming: 10GB on 4G plans and 25GB on 5G plans. The 5G tier also includes 10GB of global roaming data, while users can configure additional roaming allowances for Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
For gamers and other heavy mobile users, monthly flexibility may be convenient for changing data needs. However, the launch announcement does not provide gaming-specific latency or performance benchmarks.
Device protection included
Device Subscriptions include Swap Protect Pro, covering eligible accidental damage, attended theft and screen cracks, subject to policy terms and exclusions. Standalone SIM-only plans include Screen Crack Protect, providing one eligible claim per year of up to S$250 for repairs at brand-authorised service centres.
Launch pricing and what to check
For a limited promotional period, customisable SIM plans start at S$1 per month for the first three months. Promotional Device Subscriptions start from S$5.90 and run up to S$105.90 monthly for those first three months. From month four, standard Device Subscription pricing ranges from S$29.90 to S$119.90 monthly, depending on the device and plan.
The ability to change phones frequently may appeal to technology enthusiasts, but it should not be confused with ownership. Readers should review the duration of any new subscription term, return requirements, full regular pricing and protection exclusions before signing up.
